Derek Grigsby,
a Green Party of Michigan candidate for State Representative, District
07, and a 49 year old father of three daughters and son, was born and
raised in
the great city of Detroit, Michigan. Living in the city all his
life,
he is acutely aware of the issues and problems facing the working and
poor people of Detroit, and he knows what the citizens need, want and
deserve. A worker for the Detroit Water Department with 20 years
and a
former Chief Steward, Grigsby has been an active member of his union,
AFSCME local 207, from the beginning. He has also been active in
civil
rights, anti-war and community organizing for the past 10 years, and is
a key member of the Michigan Emergency Committee Against War &
Injustice (MECAWI).
"The citizens of Detroit deserve better," says Grigsby. "We need
to
know that looking out for one another and caring for each other is the only program we really need. Life is
not as complicated as our misleaders pretend it is", he
continued. "We
just need to prioritize the needs of people rather than
corporations.
Right now whatever the corporations tell our so-called representatives
to do, they do. They control what we eat, drink, and
breath. And
believe me it's not good. Join with me and the Green Party
candidates
to steer our city as well as our state and the country in the right
direction. That direction is truth and justice for all."
